molybdenum grease or not?

Mar 30, 2008Use molybdenum grease where your manual tells you OR use waterproof grease instead (like the Bel Ray stuff) - the thicker grease will hang around better than the lithium grease under tough conditions IMO. If you ride in water/mud conditions, you'll need to grease your bike more often to make sure rust doesn't settle in.

Grease Basics

Grease holds solid lubricants in suspension. Finely ground solid lubricants, such as molybdenum disulfide (moly) and graphite, are mixed with grease in high-temperature service or in extreme high-pressure applications. Grease holds solids in suspension while solids will settle out of oils. Fluid level does not have to be controlled and monitored.
